Things to do right now

Ensure to register

Registration is the official process to enrol as a student on your chosen course, and once your place at City St George's has been logged, you will receive an email inviting you to register.

Registration is a simple process and takes place online. Instructions for how to complete all stages of this process will vary slightly depending on whether you are a British/Irish National or an international student.

Look out for your Bystander Intervention and Consent for Students modules

Here at City St George’s, we’re committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe to thrive in their studies and work. As a place of education, proactively learning how we can play our part to support this is part of our values.

Once you have activated your IT account and have access to your University email address, you will be invited by email to complete your online modules on Bystander Intervention and Consent for Students. Completing these modules is considered essential.

You can find our single source of information on preventing misconduct, harassment and sexual misconduct on the University website.

Check your timetable

Your timetable will be uploaded onto MyTimetable/Canva before the start of your term.

You will need to activate your IT account as part of registration. Before that, you can view the general timetable for your course and year of study. Once you have your City St George's email address you will be able to log in and view your personalised timetable.

As part of Welcome, take a look at your induction timetable your School has put together which has all the scheduled activities your School is running to help you settle in.

Arrange your accommodation

If you’ve not managed to find accommodation, some rooms can potentially become available through early cancellations at our halls. Find more details on the halls that are available on the University website.

Throughout your student journey here at City St George's, our Student Health and Wellbeing team is here to help.

If you are disabled or neurodivergent, or if you have a health or mental condition, the team are here to help get support in place for you early on. Please complete an e-referral form to register with the Student Health and Wellbeing team as early as possible.

City St George’s is committed to providing the opportunity of higher education to all students who can benefit from it, regardless of circumstance and background. Our support includes financial support and advice for care leavers and estranged students.

Organise your money

Funding your course

If you haven't  arranged funding for your course yet, Student Finance England offer loans to cover tuition fees as well as maintenance costs. You can also check out City St George's Scholarships and Bursaries for additional funding options.

If you are disabled, or if you have a specific learning difference, health or mental health condition, you may be able to access the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). The University's Health & Wellbeing team will be able to help you with an application.

Open a student bank account

Explore the range of student bank account options available to find the best fit for you. If you choose to set up a student bank account, remember to check the amount of interest-free overdraft available if you think you'll need it, and how much the interest rate is for additional authorised borrowing.

Get ready with CareerLaunch

CareerLaunch is City St George's online careers and employability course designed to give you a head start in your career development before you begin your studies with us.

Covering essentials such as:

  • recognising your skills and values
  • understanding and researching your career options
  • producing effective job applications.

Register with a doctor

If you've moved to study at City St George's, you'll need to register with a local GP. Please visit the Your Health page on the Student Hub to find a GP near you and register.

You are entitled to free consultations with your GP or a specialist if you are referred to one. However please note that you need to pay for any medication you are prescribed which currently costs £9.90 per item, unless meet criteria outlined on the NHS website.

Please make sure when registering with a dentist that you state you want NHS care otherwise you will be treated as a private patient.

Settle into student life

Learn how to use Moodle (Clerkenwell and Moorgate students)

Moodle is City St George's online learning platform. To get to grips with how it works and make the most of it, it's a good idea to complete the Learning with Moodle module before your studies start.

Within the module, you will:

  • Practice submitting an assignment
  • Learn how you can get in touch with your lecturer and classmates
  • Understand how to access assessments and feedback.

You will be able to access this module once you have set up your IT account. You will be auto-enrolled on the module, which will appear when you log into Moodle.

Take a digital skills self-assessment (Clerkenwell and Moorgate students)

To help you get off to the best start to your studies at university, City St George's digital skills self-assessment tool provides you with a personlised list of support based on your current digital skills.

This tool is available once you have set up your IT account as part of the registration process.

Download CityNav (Clerkenwell and Moorgate students)

Making your way around a new environment isn't always easy, that's why the University has it's own free app, CityNav, which can be used to navigate around campus and even within buildings.

One of its super handy features is that you can also search for specific types of spaces, such as reception desks, services and also student areas. For mobile, CityNav is available on Apple devices and Android devices

When using it on your phone, please be cautious of your surroundings when in public spaces. You can also navigate campus from any device using the web app.

Get to know your route and organise travel to campus

No matter where you are travelling from, there are lots of different ways to get to City St George's. Before you arrive, it's worth spending some time to familiarise yourself with how you will get to campus.

If you are arriving into London by plane, the closest airports to City St George's are London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City Airport, Luton Airport and London Standstead airport.

Support your wellbeing 24/7 with the City Wellbeing app. Available to all students for free, the app helps you build healthy habits by:

  • Creating a personalised self-care plan with 'Chatbot Charley', and tracking how your feel and what's on your mind
  • Discovering health and wellbeing information, including support and events on offer at the University
  • Connecting with other students on the platform.

Support

Find out where you can practice your faith

The Chaplaincy team is here to support you and help you practice your faith during your time at City St George's. They offer support to everyone, welcoming every faith including those with non-religious beliefs.

You can find them in the City Faith Centre on Level 1 of the Tait Building on the Clerkenwell campus.

The team is made up of our Coordinating Chaplain, Revd Ian Worsfold, University Iman, Sheikh Musa Admani, and leaders from a variety of religions. You can find their contact details on the Student Hub.

Access support for Care leavers

There is a range of support available specifically for care leavers at City St George's. This includes additional financial support and bursaries, special accommodation arrangements and guaranteed access to the Buddy Scheme.

Get to know and join a student society

Societies are a great way to meet people who share your passions, studies, faith, cultural background or just want to try new things.

Run by the Students' Union, there are over 270 societies to choose from.

Make the most of discounts

Oyster card

As a student, you’re eligible for a discounted Oyster card. If you are 18 or over and are in full time education in London, you can use the 18+ Oyster. If you are still 18 in august, you can use a 16+ Oyster card for the first year of university.

Shopping

The TOTUM card (formerly NUS extra) is a great scheme that can be can be used to access over 200 discounts. You can buy for the card, download the app or use it online with some retailers and can purchase the TOTUM card for 1, 2 or 3 years.

UNiDAYS and Student Beans are a free student discount schemes which you can download as an app or use on your desktop.

Your university ID card can also earn you discounts in stores.

A final tip: If you are unsure whether a retailer offers discounts for students, just ask. If they don’t, the worst they can say is no.

Railcard

There are lots of railcards on offer to help you save money on rail fares, including a 16-25 railcard and a 26-30 railcard.
