Developing your digital and academic skills
Digital skills
The Digital Skills team are your go-to for any digital learning related support, such as using Moodle or using a new piece of software. They offer one-to-one support and have a range of resources available to help you, such as:
- A digital skills self-assessment tool to provide you with a personalised list of support based on your needs
- An online student digital community on Microsoft Teams to help you with on-the-spot enquiries
- LinkedIn Learning where you can access over 16,000 course, 24/7.
These tools are available once you have set up your IT account as part of the registration process.

Academic skills
The Academic Skills team are on hand to help you become an even more effective learner whilst at City St George's.
Covering topics such as referencing to critical thinking (and more), the team can support you through webinars, the Academic Skills Moodle course, and one-to-one tutorials where the topics are decided by you. For example, you can bring along a draft essay for the tutor to look at. All sessions with the team are completely confidential.

Technology at City St George's
There are lots of programmes and software that you will use as a student at City St George's, which you'll be able to access once you have set up your IT account during registration.
Here's a quick look at the key ones you'll need:
Intoduction to Moodle
Moodle is City St George's online learning platform. To get to grips with how it works and make the most of it, it's a good idea to complete the Learning with Moodle module before your studies start.
Within the module, you will:
- Practice submitting an assignment
- Learn how you can get in touch with your lecturer and classmates
- Understand how to access assessments and feedback.
You will be able to access this module once you have set up your IT account. You will be auto-enrolled on the module, which will appear when you log into Moodle.
Access your Learning with Moodle module here (available once your IT account has been set up).
Accessing Moodle
To access Moodle, you will be prompted to enter your University email address. Please use the first half of your new University email address which is your name or username, followed by @city.ac.uk. For example, Jamie.Jones@city.ac.uk. For further information, please refer to the Student Hub.
Preparing for academic success
Set yourself up for success by prioritising your academic work and showing up for your allocated classes. Here are our four top tips to make the most of your experience:
- Make sure you attend all your scheduled teaching and learning sessions
- If you're an undergraduate student or postgraduate Law student, don't forget to register your attendance when you arrive to class.
- Put time aside to engage with all elements of your programme, such as reviewing resources on Moodle and completing pre-reading before classes
- Remember you're not on your own - make use of academic and specialist support services to help you with your studies.

Library
Getting started
No matter what you're studying, City St George’s Library has a collection of resources tailored for your course. To find out how to borrow and return books and use the other great facilities on offer, visit the Library Essentials guide or speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.
When you first start accessing Library Services, the online support section is a great place to begin. In particular, the Library Guides which cover over 30 subject areas are also available to give you an insight into how to make the most of your library and its resources.
Computers and laptop loans
If you need access to a computer or laptop, the Libray can help. Computers are widely available across City St George's library spaces, and you can also loan a laptop for use on Clerkenwell Campus.

Your career
At City St George's the Careers and Employability team offer a range of specialist services to support your future career options, including:
- Career appointments, job listings and workshops throughout the year available on the online portal, CareersHub, which you will be able to access once you have set up your University IT account
- Appointments with Careers Consultants to help you realise your interests and prepare for interviews
- Opportunities such as mentoring, placements and paid part-time work.

Navigating campus and further information
Get to know important contacts in your School
There are lots of people and teams within your School who are here to support you during your time at City St George's. Here's a quick overview of your main contacts:
- Student Welfare and Engagement Officers - Our Student Welfare and Engagement Officers are your first points of contact for any wellbeing or student experience related issues with each School having its own team.
- Personal Tutor - To help you navigate the academic aspects of student life and support your progress, you will be allocated an academic member of staff as your personal tutor. They are a key point of contact throughout your course, providing advice and guidance about the academic aspects of your student experience. You can learn more in the Personal Tutoring Policy.
- Module Leader - Each module you study will have an assigned module leader overseeing the topic you are being taught. They are your first point of contact for any queries you may have about the content or organisation of that module, such as assessments and learning materials. They will have designated 'office hours' for you to speak to them.
- Course Officer - Your Course Officer is responsible for the administration of the course and your official records. You may have a question about the organisation of your course’s modules, how to submit an assessment or when specific grades will be released. Your Course Officer will be happy to answer any such questions.

Discover your Students' Union
The Students' Union is here to make every day better at City St George’s. Whether you’re looking to meet new people, join a society, get active, find support, or make change happen, they've got your back.
If you have any concerns during your time at University, the Students’ Union is here for you. Think of them as your go-to team, always ready to represent you and have your back.
To support you, they have an independent advice and support service dedicated to offering you impartial and empowering guidance.

International and Visa support and advice
The International Student Advice team will be delivering a series of one-hour, in-person and online sessions in the coming weeks to support you if you studying at City St George's on a Student Visa.
These sessions will cover:
- the main principles of the Student Visa route
- students’ roles and responsibilities as sponsored Student Visa students
- any relevant advice and guidance
- details of the Graduate Immigration scheme.
These sessions will be delivered on a School-by-School basis, so please check your timetables for scheduled events (please note, these sessions will be added as soon as they are available so if you don't see them at first, please check back).
Study Spaces on campus
Across City St George's, there are dedicated Study Spaces where you can sit and get on with your studies.
Whether you're looking for a quiet space, one with computers or sofas, or somewhere to work on a group project, Study Spaces are designed to provide just the right environment to help you get the most out of your learning.
You can find Study Spaces via the CityNav app and web app, on the Student Facilities page on the Student Hub, or find your nearest room on campus by looking for the Study Space icon (a red square with a figure sitting at a desk).
Find your way around campus with CityNav
Making your way around a new environment isn't always easy, particularly when its a university campus with lots of buildings and corridors. That's why City St George's has its own free mobile and web app, CityNav, which can be used to navigate around campus and even within buildings.
One of its super handy features is that you can also search for specific types of spaces, such as reception desks, services and also student areas.
For mobile, CityNav is available on:
- Apple devices running iOS 8.1 or later.
- Android devices running Android 4.4 or later.
When using it on your phone in public spaces, please be cautious of your surroundings. You can also navigate campus from any device using the web app.
Travelling to City St George's
London is wonderfully walkable and has a great public transport network to help you move around the city.

Food, drink, water and facilities on campus
City St George's has a variety of food and drink outlets across its buildings, and in most buildings you'll find a café to get hot drinks, sandwiches, light bites and treats. Don't miss the main canteen, The Bridge Food Court, located within University Building in Northampton Square, for the best selection of hot food.
