General FAQs for Students

Are these opportunities guaranteed?

You'll need to actively apply for each placement, internship, or project yourself. The employer or project provider will make the final selection, and availability depends on their criteria, timelines, and the number of positions they offer.

Can I apply for more than one option?

You can only pursue one opportunity as part of your degree. This approach helps you stay focused and ensures your chosen route integrates seamlessly with your academic requirements, giving you the best chance to succeed.

Will these delay my graduation?

* One-year placement: Extends your MSc by one year.
* Internships and client projects: Graduation takes place in July, as long as you complete all assessments and deadlines on schedule. If you’re completing an internship, you submit your individual project in December, giving you extra time to build on your professional experience.

Are these modules optional?

Yes. Participation depends entirely on securing a placement or internship. If you do not obtain one, you are not required to complete the module.

Is the placement relevant to my course?

Yes. You should aim to secure placements aligned with your field of study to gain practical experience that complements MSc learning.

Visa & Work FAQs (for international students)

Can I work full-time during a placement/internship?

Yes, placements and internships are linked to a credit-bearing module, officially recognised as a learning module and counting towards your degree.

Does this affect Graduate Route eligibility?

No. Completing the MSc as required ensures eligibility for the UK Graduate Route.

Are there criteria for an internship to be considered integrated into the course?

* Duration: Less than 50% of the overall course.
* Relevance: Must relate to your MSc subject.
* Assessment: Must contribute to learning outcomes via a dissertation, reflective report, or other formal module. Approved placements and internships are integrated via credit-bearing placement or internship modules.

Relevance to my MSc and impact on graduation

Must align with your field of study to maximise learning outcomes and employability.

Client Project graduation is not delayed as this is completed within the standard MSc timeframe.

Internship: Graduation takes place in July due to the later submission date of the Individual Project (in December).

Visa students who go back to their home country may need to apply for a visitor visa if they wish to return to the UK to attend it.

If you are a part-time student applying for internships or client-based projects, these would take place in the second year of your course.
