These pages provide you with a brief introduction to the MSc in International Accounting and Finance and the MSc in International Accounting and Finance with Management, and some suggested pre-reading. This pre-reading is recommended to ensure you are comfortable with topics which make up the foundation of your course. You will receive your induction timetable in July/August.

Your induction is a two-week compulsory period where you will get acquainted with your fellow students, the careers team and course faculty, through various in-person and online sessions. It also involves completion of the final stages of the student registration process.

Throughout your induction you will receive a number of classes related to your course as well as a range of careers events. These events will be included in your induction timetable as well as in the careers event timetable.

We look forward to welcoming you all in September.

Pre-course reading

Students may wish to do some reading over the summer vacation to prepare themselves for the MSc in International Accounting and Finance or MSc in International Accounting and Finance with Management. Below is a short list of books that may be useful. We have tried to select standard text-books likely to be used on the course. Within each text we have selected chapters for preliminary reading to give you an overview of the subject. We have also selected a few lighter books that you may find entertaining as well as interesting.

If you do not have the time or opportunity to read all of these – do not worry. The aim of the list is to help a little in getting started, not to provide essential reading.

  • R Brealey and S Myers, “Principles of Corporate Finance”, McGraw Hill. Latest edition. (First and last chapters)
  • B Elliott and J Elliott, “Financial Accounting and Reporting”, FT Prentice Hall. Latest edition.(First three chapters)
  • D Rowntree, “Statistics without tears: An Introduction for Non-Mathematicians”, Penguin. Latest edition.
  • McLanay and P. Atrill, “Accounting and Finance, an Introduction”, Pearson. Latest edition (Chapters 1, 2, and 8).
