The Solicitors’ Practice Programme (SPP) explained
The Solicitors’ Practice Programme (SPP) is designed for anyone who is preparing for the new route to qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales.
Over two 10-week terms, you will study the requisite material to successfully pass the SQE 1 and SQE 2 respectively.
This Master of Laws (LLM) is a blended learning programme that is taught through face to face tutorials supported by a range of online resources.

The SPP in practice
Preparation for the SQE1 and SQE2 examinations
If you are on the PGDip route, you will study SQE1 subjects in term one (10 weeks) and SQE2 subjects in term 2 (10 weeks).
Term One
- Professional Legal Knowledge 1: Business Law and Practice; Dispute Resolution; Contract; Tort, Legal System of England and Wales; Legal Services.
- Professional Legal Knowledge 2: Property Practice; Wills and the Administration of Estates;
Land Law; Trusts; Solicitors Accounts; Criminal Law and Practice.
Term Two
- Interpersonal Professional Skills: Advocacy & Client Interviewing
- Analytical Professional Skills: Case Analysis, Legal Analysis & Research
- Written Professional Skills: Legal Writing & Drafting
- Preparation for Practice: Professional competence, Professional Conduct and Ethics, Financial services and money laundering

Term 3 (for those on the LLM pathway) - in addition to the above modules you will:
Study two elective modules and complete a legal practice research project

Preparation for legal practice
The Solicitors’ Practice Programme (SPP) also aims to support your employability by developing your legal skills and increasing your awareness of contemporary legal practice, including development of your digital skills and introducing you to legal technology.
Students have access to our Future Solicitors Careers Advice (FSCA) Service which provides support and guidance in relation to your search and applications for a training contract/ qualifying work experience. You can access this service as soon as you accept an offer.

The City Law School Solicitor’s Practice Programme Scholarship
A £2,000 scholarship is available to outstanding applicants for the Solicitor’s Practice Programme (SPP), offered by The City Law School to student who have a first class undergraduate degree (in law or another discipline) or international equivalent.
Alumni discount
We are offering a Graduate Loyalty Discount of 20% on tuition fees to all our alumni when applying to any of our degree courses.
To be eligible for the discount you must have successfully completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at legacy City, University of London or legacy St George's, University of London, as well as being self-funded.
