Clearing student stories

I chose to study at City St George’s because of the Tooting campus’s unique hospital location. The specialised focus on health sciences has contributed to developing a close-knit community where students can relate and support each other irrespective of their course of study. Furthermore, the hospital location meant that collaborating with health professionals is far more accessible than other universities. In terms of academics, the university facilitates practical, hands-on learning through Dry Labs, Wet Labs, the Anatomy Suite and the Pathology Museum.

My overall experience studying at City St George’s has been overly positive thus far.

The Clearing process was a lot smoother than I anticipated. Using the UCAS Search Tool, I took note of courses that I would be interested in studying, their entry requirements, Clearing contact details as well as information about the department and university.

Despite initial nerves, I started calling up the universities to enquire about their advertised Clearing courses. The person I spoke to at my current university was kind, reassuring and competently answered any questions that I had. They asked about my confirmed grades and guided me through the application process. Within a couple days, I received a verbal offer and was contacted by an academic to discuss the course and answer any course-specific questions I had. Shortly after I added Biomedical Science as a Clearing choice on UCAS.

Throughout the process, I hated the feeling of uncertainty. However, the Clearing Team at City St George’s kept in close contact with me at each stage of the process, providing reassurance and security.

My advice to any applicant navigating through Clearing this year would be to approach it with a positive attitude, be open-minded and have self-belief. Shortlist courses you’re genuinely interested in studying; have your UCAS ID and grades on-hand and be prepared to ask any questions.

Remember, this a chance to shape the future of your academic journey, so it’s important that you make sure you find the right fit for you.

One of the main reasons I chose to study at City St George’s was the opportunity to take part in placements throughout the entire course. As a hands-on learner, I find that applying theoretical knowledge in real life settings greatly enhances my understanding. This practical approach to learning has been a key factor in my overall positive experience at  City St George’s. My Clearing experience was really well-informed—I received constant updates on my application, and all my questions were answered promptly, which helped ease a lot of the stress during the process.

My advice to students going through Clearing is to remember that it’s completely normal to feel nervous or uncertain, especially if you come across a course or university you hadn’t heard of before. Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to ask questions about placement opportunities, course structure, and student support. I would recommend City St George’s, especially for those who value hands-on experience and practical learning. Clearing can feel overwhelming, but it can also lead you to the right path, you just need to be curious and proactive.
