Student societies

Societies are a great way to meet people who share your passions, studies, faith, cultural background or just want to try new things.

Run by the Students' Union, there are over 270 societies to choose from. Take your pick from academic and faith-based societies, to exploring art, music and special interests including debating and board games, or join political, charitable and media societies. There is something for everyone.

Want to know more?

Come along and meet all our societies at the Welcome Fair on Tuesday 27 January, 12.30pm to 2.30pm, in the Pavilion at the University Building. To attend, you'll need to book a ticket (bookings will open shortly).

Can't find what you want? Why not start your own society.

Taught at various levels depending on your ability, you can register your interest to learn:

  • French, German or Spanish – beginner, lower intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced levels

  • Arabic – beginner and lower intermediate levels

Spaces on these language courses are limited, and are allocated by a lottery system for fairness. Classes take place over term one and term two, and you will have two, face-to-face, contact hours per week as well as additional learning on Moodle (the University's online learning platform).

Register your interest in taking up a free language course by 5pm on Friday 26 September.
