Final year BSc International Politics and Sociology Student, Angelina, shares her inspiring volunteering journey with us.

Angelina's passion for humanitarian work led her to becoming an independent living services volunteer for the British Red Cross, supporting people in need with their essential day-to-day tasks. Angelina recognised how rewarding this was and saw the potential for a network on campus that connected like-minded students. As a result, City St George's first British Red Cross society was founded with the support of City St George's Students' Union.

"No matter how big or small your contribution, every act of kindness, every hour of your time and every skill has the potential to create a positive impact. It's important to recognise the value of your efforts."

As President, Angelina encouraged fellow students to engage in volunteering, training and networking opportunities throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. The society collaborated with other groups to support Syrian refugees and hosted disaster and crisis workshops with external speakers. According to Angelina, not only does volunteering help with personal development and skills growth...

"Volunteering positively affects mental and emotional well-being, combats feelings of isolation and brings happiness through helping others."

One standout experience was a three-day trip to Wales where Angelina, her City St George's peers and volunteers from all over the world, represented the voice of young people in shaping the International Red Cross' new organisational strategy.
