At City, we're excited about the development of three key initiatives, each reflecting our commitment to enhance the student experience and put students at heart of what we do.

How City’s Strategy is positively impacting students

Central to City’s Vision and Strategy, these initiatives focus on understanding student needs and providing tailored and personalised support services to improve the student experience.

City is committed to actively creating opportunities for students to feel a stronger sense of community, supporting wellbeing, enhancing learning outcomes and helping students thrive. City is now providing a unique opportunity to transform the on-campus experience and empower students to access support when, and how, you need it.

City aims to help students thrive by:

The Student Gateway Project is transforming the on-campus experience

The Student Gateway Project will be a thoughtfully designed, modern, interactive space at the heart of our Northampton Square campus. The exciting redevelopment of the first floor of Drysdale building is much more than a building project. Check out this computer-generated virtual tour created by project designers. The video offers a glimpse into the future showing how the space might look upon completion.

Did you know? The space will be a central hub for key support services, making it easier for students to get the support they need from a single location.

It's designed to benefit students and staff, creating a space where students will belong, and enhancing the on-campus experience. The initiative also includes upgrading the second floor of Drysdale building to improve staff hybrid working spaces, leading to better collaboration and more efficient student support.

The project is a direct response to student feedback and a key deliverable of the Student Experience workstream.

Support@City is providing joined-up, consistent and personalised support

Support@City is our online support system that will complement the Student Gateway Project. Launched in August 2023, the system is designed to provide joined-up, consistent, responsive and personalised support services for students.

Support@City is a single online portal where students can submit and track the progress of support queries, avoiding the need to email multiple teams. The system then securely shares queries with relevant teams, streamlining the process, improving efficiency and enables staff to tailor responses to student needs.

The project continues to evolve, now entering a new phase where City is introducing a new chatbot to offer even quicker responses and integrating Student Support plans. The system ensures a clear pathway for students to access timely academic and pastoral support. The initiative is shaped by student feedback and highlights City’s commitment to prioritising student wellbeing.

Get Heard@City is empowering student voices and taking action

GetHeard@City is a new feedback platform designed to empower student voices and create change. The University and City Students' Union have worked in collaboration to develop the platform. It's a space where students can talk to their programme reps, share experiences with others, and track how their feedback has been actioned. Students can choose to provide private feedback or take part in wider discussions.

The "Together We Changed" section shows how student suggestions lead to real changes.

Your feedback leads to great changes. Recent changes include:

  • Following feedback from a Doctoral student, the School of Health & Psychological Sciences created a SharePoint site for easy access to essential policies and guidance.
  • Responding to student feedback, City Sport and the SU launched more female-only initiatives, including Women-only Box-fit classes, to widen participation.

This effort is part of City's commitment to making the University experience as responsive and personalised as possible.

By understanding student needs, and continuously improving our offering, we're working towards a future that meets the expectations of both current and future students

We're excited about the developments of these projects at City and encourage students to stay tuned for future updates.
