Department of Engineering

  • Picture perfect lecture capture

    You said: Students found it difficult to engage with Lecture Capture recordings when examples were written on the white board, as it was difficult to see.

    We did: To improve Lecture Capture for whiteboard examples, we addressed feedback from GetHeard and SSLCs by working with LeAD to train staff on camera adjustments and encouraged using the visualiser instead of the whiteboard.

  • Extension… Granted

    You said: Block-taught modules should be extended to allow more time for students to discuss and explore.

    We did: Block-taught modules were extended from 3 to 4 days, allowing more time for discussions and idea assimilation while retaining the benefits of the format.

    We also changed exam marking schemes from model answers to use of a rubric. This enhances lecturer feedback to exam answers.

  • Investing in your network

    You said: Students wanted to connect with well-established financial services providers as part of their programme.

    We did: We established student projects with reputable financial services providers and began seeking additional industry projects for final dissertations.

Department of Computer Science

Location, location, location

You said: Classes for Module IN0005 (Introduction to Programming with Python) needed to be relocated due to development of the Student Support Hub, meaning that students were attending labs in Finsbury Square, with lectures remaining at Northampton Square. Students fed back that this was inconvenient, and meant that time was wasted getting between classes.

We did: Lectures were successfully rescheduled to Finsbury Square to improve convenience for students, and meant that all classes for the module took place in the same location.

Department of Mathematics

  • Targeted tutorials for tough modules

    You said: Students would like additional tutorials for challenging modules.

    We did: Created additional tutorials, targeted at key modules and aimed at facilitating student progression.

  • Extra support and social spaces

    You said: Students would like to see place where Mathematics students will be welcome to seek help about their course, socialise, and learn in a relaxed and informal fashion.

    We did: Developed the Maths Learning Café: held three times a week during term time, where students can drop in for academic support, grab a snack, and socialise with their peers.

  • Calculators get the green light

    You said: Students requested for a wider range of calculator to be added to the list of approved models, to ensure that calculators were more easily accessible and affordable.

    We did: Ensure that an additional four models of calculator were added to the list of approved models ahead of the upcoming assessment period.
