The School of Science & Technology aims to help undergraduates develop into future STEM professionals through providing students with a range of professional career development experiences. Find out how we do this below!
The Corporate Relations & Employability Unit
As the University of business, practice and the professions, we understand that studying for a degree is just the beginning of the student’s journey towards a rewarding career. We also know that the best employers look beyond academic qualifications for the attributes and experience needed to hit the ground running.
We take developing employment prospects so seriously that we embed it into the course. We are among the first universities working to lay solid foundations for our students’ coming careers, even before they graduate.
How does CREU support their students?
The Professional Pathway Scheme
The Professional Pathway (PP) scheme is an innovative mode of study facilitated by the Corporate Relations & Employability Unit.
Unique to the Department of Computer Science at City, it allows students to transfer to relevant four-day-a-week employment after a period of study and complete their degree through a combination of day-release and e-learning. Watch our video to find out more.
Industry Group Projects
Here in the School of Science & Technology, we are helping our students by partnering with industry experts to deliver industrial group and individual projects.
Through these projects, students work in teams or as individuals to develop a solution to an industry challenge in partnership with one of our employer partners.
Year-long industrial placement
Work in industry on a paid 9-15-month industry placement at a large multinational organisation or one of many of our exclusive industry partners including SMEs.
Summer Internship
Work in industry each summer of your degree on completion of your first year until you graduate in a role relevant to your discipline.
Last-mile training modules
Embedded core and elective modules delivered in partnership with one of our industry partners. You take these modules before you graduate, giving you the opportunity to impress the employer leading the module and potentially securing a graduate role with them. Other benefits can include access to professional certification.
Integrated career-focused skills development
Develop your professional and career-focused skills through our industry linked modules. Multiple employer partners contribute towards the course content of these modules enabling you to benefit from the latest industry developments.
The purpose of these opportunities is for you to gain experiences from multiple employers. We are confident these experiences will help you stand out in a competitive graduate marketplace and accelerate your journey to becoming a STEM professional of the future.
