Project Proposal Form: City St Georges Computer Science Final Year Industry Projects (Deadline: 9am 14 September 2026)

We’re inviting organisations to collaborate with our talented final year undergraduate Computer Science students on real-world development-focused projects for the 2026/27 academic year. These projects run from October to April (450 hours total) and give businesses the chance to:

  • ✅ Develop a working prototype or digital solution - at no cost
  • ✅ Access a pipeline of highly skilled developers for future recruitment
  • ✅ Bring fresh thinking and innovation into your organisation
  • ✅ Contribute to shaping industry-ready tech talent

With rising development costs and increasing demand for digital transformation, this partnership offers a low-risk way to explore new ideas and test solutions.

What makes a good project?

🎓Clear overview student skills requirements

For example: Web development, programming languages, databases, API integration, AI tools, NLP etc.

🎯Clear project scope and deliverables

For example: A production ready AI companion to be safely deployed through a webpage, including QA testing, and clear documentation/ handover materials

🤝Ongoing support available from the organisation, including access to resources where relevant

For example: Dedicated project sponsor, knowledge pack, regular meetings etc.

📈Genuine impact

For example: What the project will deliver for the organisation and/or users/ communities

Example Projects

Students have delivered a wide range of innovative solutions, including:

  • 📱 Mobile apps e.g. a fully functional community engagement application with specific features
  • 🤖 AI-powered assistants e.g. a production ready AI-companion with two stand alone modules
  • 🎮 Games e.g. an interactive game available as an android application with specific features/levels
  • 🔐 Security and password tools using LLMs e.g. an MVP for a phishing detection platform, with email analysis and risk scoring
  • 📊 Advanced data and metadata analysis systems e.g. a working dashboard that scrapes, analyses, and visualises complex datasets

✅ Supported throughout by academic supervisors to ensure quality.

Submit your proposal

📊 Mid-September

Academic review for suitability

🤝 Late September–October

Project promotion and student matching

📄 November

Project plan agreed / Student submits Project Definition Document (PDD) for approval

🔍 February 2027

Deadline for final ethics submission

🎯 April 2027

Student Project submission, including project package/ code, report and demo video. Feedback requested from organisations.

Ethics and Intellectual Property

Project Ethics

All projects must operate within our Research Ethics Framework, which also ensures compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Industry projects must meet university requirements for a 'minimal risk' project. Projects proposed to recruit participants who are vulnerable adults or children or those relating to sensitive topics would not be deemed 'minimal risk'.

Both the University and Department of Computer Science have further information about research ethics.

Intellectual Property

Intellectual property can be agreed in advance to suit your organisation’s needs. The university policy is available via Intellectual Property - Legacy St George's * City St George's, University of London.
