Congratulations on your offer to start a course at the School of Health and Medical Sciences.
There are a few essential items you are required to complete before joining your course.
To ensure that you are ready your course requires you to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and submit your Occupational Health questionnaires. This will ensure that you are prepared and ready and that you meet all the requirements to go safely into practice.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced check
You will shortly receive an email inviting you to start your DBS application. Our partner company, Atlantic Data Lt, manages the DBS application.
A DBS check is a process to find out whether someone has a criminal record and is a requirement of your course. It may take several months, so it’s essential you start the process as soon as you receive an email from Atlantic Data.
You are encouraged and advised to start your application as soon as possible and by 1st September 2026 at the latest.
Offer-holders who do not submit their DBS application by the required date may impact you starting your placement. It is a UK government requirement to complete a DBS to attend placements. If you are not cleared in time to start placements it may be necessary to interrupt your studies.
You can read more about the DBS eligibility on the government website.
Please note, we only accept DBS checks carried out by City St George's, University of London. If you have recently completed a DBS check as part of work or volunteering, we will require you to complete a new check.
We do not accept DBS update service. You are required to complete a new DBS as part of your entry to the programme.
DBS Process
The DBS is a multi-step process that may take time to progress through the stages. Please review the list of IDs permitted below.
It is your responsibility to ensure you complete a DBS check: Please ensure you:
- Read the information and guidance on this page and the information that has been emailed to you
- Follow each stage of the application process thoroughly
- Start your application as soon as you receive your email inviting you to start your DBS application.
Details of the process can be found in the DBS application process document
If you have any difficulties completing your DBS please email dbs@citystgeorges.ac.uk
DBS steps are as follows:
Prepare ID documents
You will need to provide at least three (3), valid documents as specified in the DBS guidance and DBS Valid ID documents, and collectively, these documents must confirm:
- your current legal name
- your current address
- your date of birth
If you are a UK national and hold a valid biometric passport, it should be possible for you to complete your DBS check using the Digital ID service without the need for other documents. You will be informed of your eligibility as part of your DBS check.
Activate DBS account
You will receive an email from our partner company, Atlantic Data with instructions and further details. Please activate your account as soon as possible once you have received the email.
Complete and submit an application and upload ID documents
These are the ID documents you have selected in the application process (if you are using a bank statement, ensure that you use a physical copy that was posted to your current address).
Book and Attend ID Check
After submitting your ID documents, and your documents have been vetted, you will be invited to attend an ID Document verification call. Note that your DBS check can only begin once your ID has been verified so please attend this as soon as possible to avoid delays.
Outcome and DBS Certificate in post
Once the process is completed your DBS Certificate will be posted to the address that was listed on your application.
Occupational Health clearance and Covid-19 Vulnerably assessment
Along with a DBS check you are required to complete and submit your health screening questionnaire
The mandatory healthcare questionnaires can be accessed via the links below:
The reason for these checks is to ensure adjustments, either in clinical practice or in the theoretical part of the course, can be put in place before you start.
OHWorks will also review your vaccination and immunisation history and the need for any additional vaccinations before starting the clinical part of your course. Further details can be found on our Occupational Health Checks pages.
At City St George's, University of London we work with specialist provider OHWorks Ltd. We have dedicated Clinicians working exclusively with students on healthcare programmes at City St George's.
By completing the online questionnaire, you are consenting to the University's Learning Support Services being passed your contact details so they can contact you directly if you have disclosed you have a disability.
