Before you watch any of your classes online, you will need to set up your profile on SEAtS so you are taken directly to the Calendar tab when you log in. To do this, you will need to:
- Log into the web version of SEAtS on your laptop.
- Click your name up the top right of the screen.
- Click ‘Settings’.
- Click ‘Default Landing page’ and set to ‘My Profile’.
- A box should appear saying ‘Actions updated successfully’.
Please watch the video below to see this process.
Once this is done, follow these steps to watch any of your classes:
- Log into the web version of SEAtS on your laptop.
- Select the link for your class from the Calendar to join the livestream in Live Lecture Capture (Echo360) via Moodle.
- Your attendance will automatically be recorded.
The steps are demonstrated in the video below.
Classes are recorded and can be watched on demand in Moodle.
Logging your attendance inside a lecture theatre
If you’re attending the lecture in-person, simply tap your student card onto the reader when you enter class. You'll hear a short beep or see a green tick on the screen to confirm that your attendance has been logged.
The readers are a small square digital box, fixed to the wall within most of our teaching and learning spaces. They look like either of the below:

If you tap in within the first 15 minutes of the start of your class, you will be marked as attended. If you tap in between 15 to 30 minutes of the activity you will be marked as late. After that you will automatically be marked as absent.
Please note, there is no need to record attendance for Welcome Week.
Tips on tapping in:
- Avoid card clash – take your ID card out of your wallet/card holder to ensure the right card is read.
- Check that you are not using an old ID card to tap into the lectures.
- Count Me In card readers will produce a beep and a tick mark whenever any chip-containing card is tapped.
Joining and Attending
Why can’t I login with my City St Georges email?
You will need to login using your legacy City email (Firstname.Lastname@city.ac.uk) and password.
Why can't I see my class on my calendar in SEAtS?
If you cannot see your online class in your calendar, this might be because you have not been allocated correctly, contact your Course officer and they will be able to resolve this for you.
Can I join a class I am not registered to be in?
No, you will not be able to join in if you are not allocated to that class, your timetabled session will not include a class link to join.
What happens if I join my class before the start time?
You can access the Link to join a class when the ‘LIVE’ box is next to the relevant session.
If the link is associated with Lecture Capture (Echo 360) and you access the link early you can select option to join automatically when the session starts.
I’ve joined my class; how do I check my attendance has been captured?
To check your attendance has been captured, navigate back to the calendar view on the SEAtS web version or the app. Next to the session you are checking into you should see a green tick with ‘Attended’ underneath.
What to do if the link isn’t working?
You can Join the Lecture through lecture capture in Moodle or if this is not working, you can watch the recording after the session.
If you have any issues, please fill out our online form and we will get in touch with you.
Please also contact your Lecturer and Course office at the time of the timetabled session to ensure your attendance can be recorded manually. You must do this by the end of your session.
Lateness, Absence & Low Attendance
Can I join my online class late?
You can click the blue LINK in your timetable to join your class at any time.
Where possible we encourage student to attend their sessions on time, however, you can join your class 15 minutes before and up to 14 minutes after the scheduled start time and you will be marked ‘Attended’.
If you join between 15 to 30 minutes after the start of the session you will be marked as late. After that you will automatically be marked as absent.
If you join late, you will still be marked as attended in your attendance record.
What should I do if I need to leave an online class early and then re-join?
If you need to leave an online class, or accidentally close your browser, you can re-open the link from your calendar on the SEAtS web version or the app.
Please note that we do conduct checks on the length of time you have joined the session for, and students who are found to be joining and then leaving their sessions may have their attendance marked as absent.
Persistent falsifying of attendance will be flagged via our Student Misconduct Policy.
I can’t make a class, what should I do?
For absences of 7 days or less you do not need to provide evidence for a one-off absence. However, persistent or repeated short-term absences will result in contact from your School to discuss the impact. You may need to contact your lecturer or programme team to inform them of your absence.
