Next steps
After you apply
When you submit your application, you will receive an automated confirmation email from the system to acknowledge the receipt of your application.
The relevant Postgraduate Admissions team and Admissions Tutor will check your application and documents to assess your academic background, motivations and suitability for your intended course before making a decision.
Although each School has its own guidelines on timeframes, it normally takes from two to six weeks for your application to be reviewed. You will then be contacted and notified of one of the following outcomes:
- Unconditional offer. You have met all the entry requirements and we have reserved you a place on your chosen course.
- Conditional offer. You are being offered a place on your intended course provided that you meet the requirements outlined in your offer letter. To secure your place, you will need to send us the required documents as soon as you can to show that you satisfy the conditions.
- Interview/Selection day. You are invited to attend an interview before a final decision is made.
- Unsuccessful. You do not meet the entry requirements and unfortunately we are unable to offer you a place.
Receiving and responding to an offer
If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter via email. Please read it carefully, as it contains important information on the next steps and timeline.
To accept your offer, follow the instructions in your offer letter, which include links to:
- Access the online portal and complete the offer response process
- Pay a non-refundable deposit, if required, quoting the student number provided at the top of your offer letter (Note: Your offer letter will specify if a deposit is required).
Make sure you complete these steps by the deadline(s) stated in the letter. Late acceptances will only be permitted if space is still available. If you need more time to decide, please contact the Admissions team for advice.
Once you have confirmed your place and, if applicable, paid your deposit, we will keep you informed by email with additional information before your course begins.
Deposits, fees and finance
To secure your place upon receiving your offer, you may be required to pay a non-refundable deposit. If applicable, details will be provided in your offer letter, and the deposit will count as part payment towards your tuition fees.
Our Finance pages contain detailed information on deposits, fees and funding methods, including:
- Accepted methods of payment, including sponsorships
- Our policies on deposit refunds
- Payment schedules for tuition fees
- Available scholarships, bursaries and other sources of funding for postgraduate students.
Register as a student
To become a fully registered student, you will need to complete a five-stage registration process.
Please note that you will not be a registered student at the University until you have completed all stages of registration. Visit the Student Hub to read more about the registration process.
Start your course
We will communicate with you regularly in preparation for the start of your course.
September entry
You will receive your induction timetable by email in late August and then you will receive your timetable for the rest of the term during Induction.
Induction, also known as Welcome Week, usually takes place in the second half of September and is an excellent opportunity for you to get involved, make new friends, and start making the most of your university experience. It will also allow you to familiarise yourself with the course and meet the relevant academic staff. More information will be published on our new students pages closer to September.
Teaching normally commences in the week following Welcome Week but many courses have an earlier start and details on this will be provided to you. Visit our academic year and term dates page for more information.
January entry
You will receive induction information in December/ January. Teaching typically begins the week following Induction, although start dates may vary based on your course. We will provide more specific details in due time.

City St George's. Together we're more.
In August 2024, City, University of London merged with St George’s, University of London. We are now City St George’s, University of London.
Though we are now one institution, full integration will take some time. You may still see reference to our legacy City and St George’s names and logos, but these will be updated to reflect the merger in due course.
For the 2025/26 academic year, we are operating under a ‘dual running model’, with separate application policies and procedures. Programmes and study locations for 2025 entry are expected to remain unchanged.
