The ceremony will be held at The Barbican, near our Clerkenwell campus. There are many transport links to the site and you can download a useful map showing you where in the building you need to go.

Please remain seated throughout the ceremony and stand only for the incoming and outgoing processions.

Professor Richard Ashcroft: Executive Dean, The City Law School

Professor Ashcroft studied mathematics and history & philosophy of science at the University of Cambridge, where he went on to complete a doctorate on ethics in scientific research. He began his research career in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Liverpool, before going on to teaching and research positions in the medical schools of the University of Bristol, Imperial College London and Queen Mary, University of London.

He moved into legal education at the Department of Law at Queen Mary, before joining City, University of London as Deputy Dean of The City Law School in September 2019. Since September 2022, he has been Dean. He has published more than 150 articles and book chapters on topics in bioethics and medical law, mainly in the fields of research ethics and ethics in public health.

He has wide ranging research interest in the ethical aspects of new technologies, and in 2018/19 was a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute. He continues to teach medical law and ethics. He has also held numerous public appointments, including current membership of the Tobacco Advisory Group of the Royal College of Physicians of London.

In his spare time, he is a keen follower of cricket.
