Gaining real-world insight from major shipping companies

I appreciated the opportunity to spend a week in Athens at Almi Tankers, where we got to see how they operate and understand more about their business. It really helped to ‘connect the dots’ of what we had learned on the course. Another great thing about the course is that major companies, like Maersk, come in to give presentations. It gives you an opportunity to talk and start to build a relationship. That makes it easier when you are applying for jobs because you can mention you’ve already been interacting with their employees and know about their company. Several people on my course secured their jobs in this way.

My time at Bayes prepared me well for my roles – I was an Analyst for the Bayes Shipping Society, generating weekly reports on Gas and LPG and freight rates. That teamwork element and knowledge have really helped me in my career. I joined as an Analyst in Clean Petroleum Products at Steem 1960 shipbrokers, but after less than a year I’ve been promoted to Head of Gas, with responsibility for analysing gas research worldwide. It’s definitely been a good investment.

A strong return on investment

I currently work for ENI trade & biofuels and there is no way I would have been able to my current job without what I learned from my masters. I work as a market risk analyst and my day to day job require me to do a lot of what we did during the oil and energy trading course and I still find myself pulling up my notes from the class if there is anything I want to freshen up on before talking to my colleagues.

There are several Bayes alumni working here at ENI which has made making friends an easy task as we can all bond over late nights studying for the challenging courses we all took at Bayes.

I was able to land my current job due to the career team and their great relations with former Bayes students. It was a former student who works here at ENI who forwarded the position to Bayes, which is how I ended up finding it and then with the help of the careers team I applied and got the position.
