About Dr Dirk Nitzsche
Dr Dirk Nitzsche is an Associate Professor in Finance at Bayes Business School, City St George’s, University of London. He joined Bayes in 2004 and has a long academic record in finance, including previous roles at Imperial College London and Newcastle University. He holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle. His research interests include asset pricing, financial markets and fund management, and he has authored textbooks on investments, derivatives and quantitative financial economics.
Over the last few years, his research has focused on the performance of the mutual fund industry in the UK and Germany. He applies advanced statistics such as bootstrapping to distinguish whether performance can be explained by luck or skill. He has calculated the False Discovery Rate, a metric used in finance for multiple testing, and has performed non-parametric market timing and other style timing tests.
