What types of university halls are available?

Postgraduate students can choose from single en-suite rooms, rooms in shared flats, or self-contained studios. Most halls include communal areas for socialising and studying, and facilities such as Wi-Fi, laundry, bike storage, and on-site staff support. Rent and deposits vary depending on the hall and room type.

How much does university accommodation cost?

University accommodation costs approximately £240–£350 per week, depending on the room type and facilities.

How do I apply for university housing, and when should I apply?

After accepting your course offer at City St George’s, you will be invited to complete the online accommodation application. You can list your preferred halls, but allocation is on a first-come, first-served basis and may not guarantee your top choice. Early application is recommended, especially if you have specific room requirements.

Allocation of halls will be assessed according to the date of application submitted. Our allocation process will commence from May/June 2026 and will be ongoing until all rooms have been booked at each hall.

Do I need to provide a deposit to secure university accommodation?

Yes – advance rent is required when booking your room. The amount depends on the hall to which you are allocated.

Special considerations & support

City St George’s and its accommodation partners provide support for students with disabilities, including accessible rooms and additional assistance. Notify the Student Health & Wellbeing Team should you need additional support or assistance.

Can I bring pets to student accommodation?

Pets are generally not allowed in university-managed accommodation. Students who need a service or assistance animal for medical or disability reasons should contact the Student Health & Wellbeing Team to discuss arrangements. Support will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Are there accommodation options suitable for couples or students with families?

University-managed accommodation is mainly for individual students, so options for couples or families are limited. Suitable housing can be found through the private rental sector, though these properties are often more expensive.

Who can I contact for advice or support with finding accommodation?

You can contact the the Accommodation team via email or through this form for guidance on both university-managed and private housing, tenancy advice, and resources for safe and suitable accommodation.

Private accommodation

Private accommodation offers a personalised housing experience with a wide range of options across London. If considering private accommodation, consider campus distance, public transport times, and nearby amenities such as shops, cafes, and leisure facilities.

How do I find private accommodation near campus?

You can search for private accommodation using online property platforms, local letting agencies, or student-focused housing websites. Visit our Student accommodation page for guidance on trusted providers, tenancy advice, and tips for finding safe and suitable rentals.

What should I check before signing a private rental contract?

Carefully review the tenancy agreement, including rent, deposit, utility bills, contract length, notice periods, and house rules. Make sure you understand your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and confirm that the property is safe and well-maintained.

What happens if I break my accommodation contract?

Breaking a contract may result in financial penalties, such as losing your deposit or being liable for remaining rent. Contact your landlord or housing provider as soon as possible to discuss your options.
