The future of Bunhill Row

Refurbishment works at Bunhill Row will start in June 2023. See the planned schedule by floor for Bunhill Row.

The full refurbishment works will commence from the beginning of June 2023, with the first phase ending in August 2023. The second phase will begin concurrently to the first and end in September 2023. Those impacted by the works will be notified in due course.

Planned schedule:

  • Initial works: May - June 2023
  • Phase one: June - August 2023
  • Phase two: August - September 2023

Please note that these dates are subject to change.

Bunhill Row will remain open for the entirety of the refurbishment works.

Bunhill Row planned schedule by floor

    LG Floor, Ground Floor, Floor 1 and Floor 2

    LG Floor: The milling area outside LG001 will be out of use for a short period so the lights on the ground floor can be replaced by using scaffolding. We will work with the Events Team and Timetabling to agree a date in the summer with the least amount of impact.

    Ground Floor: The entry doors (expected end of July) and reception desks will be replaced. New lighting and furniture will be installed.

    Floor 1: Mid June – end July: Fire-wall works. The offices near the first kitchen space will have existing walls removed and replaced with fire safety walls.

    Floor 2: End May – beginning July: Fire-wall works. Stair 1 will have fire safety walls installed.

    A male and female prayer facility and associated washing facilities will be built. This will remove two syndicate rooms from use.

    Floor 3 and Floor 4

    Floor 3: Beginning June – end July: Fire-wall works. The offices near the kitchen space will have existing walls removed and replaced with fire safety walls, the glass panels will be replaced with solid walls.

    Displaced staff will be temporarily located in syndicate rooms on this floor.

    Floor 4: Beginning June – beginning August: Four new offices are being built to accommodate academic staff growth. Staff on the first corridor will be decanted to vacant offices or hot-desks in Finsbury Square.

    Access doors will be installed at the rear of the floor to create secure office spaces for current staff. Timing TBC

    Beginning July – beginning August: Fire-wall works. The offices near the first kitchen space will have existing walls removed and replaced with fire safety walls.

    Floor 5 and Floor 6

    Floor 5: End May – mid July: Fire-wall works. The offices near the first kitchen space will have existing walls removed and replaced with fire safety walls. This will be happening on every floor.

    Access doors will be installed at the rear of the floor to create secure office spaces for current staff. Timing to be confirmed.

    Floor 6: This floor will be out of commission from 12 May until early September. Work is being undertaken on the air handling, network cabling, lighting and offices.

    The MBA lounge is being turned in to a staff hub and events space.

    The 6th floor main office will have some hybrid desks and offices installed.

    Please note From 12 May – beginning September no Syndicate Rooms, MBA Lounge or Lecture Room are available on the 6th Floor.

The future of Finsbury Square

Phase one of works at Finsbury Square is coming to an end, and phase two is due to start soon. See the planned schedule for Finsbury Square.

Updates

  • From Monday 3 April access is limited to the Ground Floor, Level 1 and Level 2. Students should take the internal staircase as much as possible – this route will be signposted.
  • Different entrance points at the main entrance have been set up to ensure as much separation as possible between students and builders.
    • The internal staircase is for students and staff use only
    • Lift use is shared between all building users. All three lifts are operational - it is worth noting that they have internal protection in place.
    • Signage is in place to help people navigate the building
  • There was a comprehensive clean of the space on the afternoon of Friday 31 March.

Finsbury Square planned schedule

    Following preliminary works, the complete refurbishment works on 33 Finsbury Square began in August 2022.

    The first phase is scheduled to be finished by March 2023, with the second phase beginning immediately. Work should conclude by July 2023.

    Planned schedule:

    • Phase one: June 2022 - March 2023
    • Phase two: March 2023 - July 2023

    In order to do the works, we need to temporarily move people to other spaces. Those groups most impacted by the works, including research centres and certain degree groups, will be contacted in due course with more information on dates and processes.
